This is my first attempt at working with terracotta.

I had my eye set on making tumblers in the Spring of 2020. Once I was able to get my hands of a wheel in the Summer and Fall, making a set was one of the first goals I set.

These are also some of my first forms using terracotta. While it is much less forgiving than the grey stoneware I was so used to, it is not nearly as temperamental as white stoneware, which was my only other option at the time. However, I fell in love with red clay once I had learned to use it.

Learning to throw with terracotta made me a better potter overall. It forced me to focus on my movements more closely while throwing, and my explorations with surface design made me take into account form and design with more precision and purpose.
